Axpo will develop one of the largest battery storage facilities in Sweden, it was announced.
Acquired from project developer SENS (Sustainable Energy Solutions Sweden), the facility in Filipstad is designed to provide ancillary services to help balance the electricity grid. Construction is expected to start in early 2024.
25 MW lithium-ion battery storage system
Axpo will develop a 25 MW lithium-ion battery storage system around 300 km west of the Swedish capital Stockholm, in the town of Filipstad.
The battery storage will be used to provide ancillary services to help balance the electricity grid. Construction of the plant is expected to commence in early 2024.
20 MW solar plant
The two projects cover an area of over 23 hectares (230,000 m2)
At the same location, Axpo will also continue to develop a ground-mounted solar plant with a capacity of up to 20 MW. The two projects cover an area of over 23 hectares (230,000 m2).
SENS (Sustainable Energy Solutions Sweden) initiated the development of both projects, which Axpo acquired on 15 May 2023. Axpo and SENS will co-develop the two projects. The parties have agreed not to disclose the commercial terms of the transaction.
acquiring two important projects
