Prospective electronics technicians for industrial engineering in their first year of training at Westnetz GmbH recently planted 20 fruit trees on an old orchard in the Bauerbahn area. The aim of the campaign was to contribute to the restoration and preservation of natural habitats in our region.
Under the direction of Ralf Herrmann from the Office for Urban Greenery, Environment and Climate, the young people, together with employees of the city of Neuss, planted Rhenish fruit tree varieties in exchange for trees that had died due to age.
Contribution to environmental protection
In addition to planting the trees, the Westnetz employees learned important aspects of stock preservation. The campaign offered a good opportunity to teach the trainees responsibility and environmental awareness and to make a contribution to environmental protection. The trees, worth around 5,500 euros, were financed by a donation from the distribution network operator Westnetz.
Trainer André Kalkmann, who co-organized the campaign, was pleased with the commitment of the young employees: "This campaign shows that we can all make a contribution to protecting our environment. In addition, we want to encourage not only our trainees, but everyone else to make responsible and sustainable decisions."
Tree planting campaign
Trainee Daniel Horn added: “A great campaign that lets me go home with a good feeling: variety in the job and at the same time having done something for sustainability.”
The tree planting campaign is another example of the company's ongoing commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. Through such initiatives, Westnetz actively contributes to protecting the environment and improving the quality of life locally.
