The Bernkastel-Kues municipality is taking on a pioneering role in terms of electromobility. A new charging station for electric cars is now available at the Bernkastel-Kues sewage treatment plant. The non-public charging facility can be used by technical staff to charge the municipality's own vehicles.

As the energy service provider and infrastructure partner of the Bernkastel-Kues municipality, Westenergie is covering part of the costs for installing the technology.

Electromobility and green electricity

Marco Felten, Head of the Trier region at Westenergie, met with Leo Wächter, Mayor of the Bernkastel-Kues collective municipality, and Wolfgang Hauth, Head of the collective municipality utilities, for the symbolic commissioning of the charging station.

"Our employees travel throughout the entire Bernkastel-Kues collective municipality as part of their administrative work. We want to significantly reduce the emissions of pollutants during the necessary journeys and are therefore relying on electromobility and green electricity in this segment. In the course of the energy transition, we want to serve as a role model," explained Mayor Wächter.

Westenergie charging stations

Regional Manager - Marco Felten from Westenergie, stated: "Electromobility is a future issue both for us as an energy service provider and for the municipalities. It therefore makes sense to promote the use of electromobility for business trips by the technical employees of the municipality in order to further reduce the environmental impact of passenger transport."

The electric vehicles of the Bernkastel-Kues collective municipality can now be refueled with green electricity in many places in the administrative area. Westenergie charging stations are already available in nine municipalities in the Bernkastel-Kues collective municipality and now also at the Bernkastel-Kues sewage treatment plant.
