Together with the municipality of Nottuln, Westenergie AG is supporting the renovation of the street lighting to LED. Along the footpath on the Stever, between the L551 and the A43, 17 new, environmentally friendly adaptive LED lights are now providing efficient and energy-saving lighting.
The mayor of Nottuln, Dr. Dietmar Thönnes, employees of the municipal administration, representatives of local politics and Westenergie municipal manager Norbert Lüssem were on site to get an idea of the modernization.
long-lasting LED technology
The new street lighting is what is known as a "moving light." This means that a low dimming level is active when no one is walking past. If movement is detected, the path in the corresponding section is fully illuminated.
"The new long-lasting LED technology will not only make a significant contribution to easing the burden on the budget in the future, but will also protect the environment," explained Mayor Dr. Thönnes. He added: "We are implementing a project that many citizens in Appelhülsen have long wanted."
New street lighting
The new street lighting also preserves the natural habitat of flora and fauna
The new technology results in less light emissions. The new street lighting also preserves the natural habitat of flora and fauna. Insects, migratory birds, and nocturnal animals, in particular, benefit from this.
Westenergie municipal manager Norbert Lüssem emphasized another advantage: "We are pleased that we can contribute to improving the infrastructure in Nottuln. The new street lighting ensures increased safety thanks to the optimized lighting quality." This is particularly important to the two CDU council members from Appelhülsen, Arnd Rutenbeck and Hartmut Rulle: "The lighting previously snaked its way from the railway lines to the country road and ended halfway here. Our joint effort with the mayor to finally do a whole thing with the extension to the motorway was able to convince the local council."
Use of modern LED technology
The municipality of Nottuln expects the new lighting on the footpath along the Stever to save up to 70 percent of its previous energy costs. In addition, the use of modern LED technology will help to significantly reduce CO2 emissions.
Westenergie offers the KEK - Municipal Energy Concept funding program to municipalities that have a concession agreement with the energy company. It contains solutions and products that help municipalities prepare for the energy future. Measures in the areas of climate protection, energy efficiency and infrastructure are funded. This includes, for example, increasing the energy efficiency of municipal buildings and facilities or concepts for electromobility.
