With the advancement of clean energy production, countries have invested more and more in projects related to this theme and WEG keeps contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions worldwide supplying solutions for a blue hydrogen production plant in South Korea.

hydrogen production plant

WEG, through its Commercial Operation in France, supplied three large synchronous motors for the future largest liquefied hydrogen production plant in the world, belonging to the leading energy and chemical group in South Korea.

The initial phase of the project, scheduled for completion in 2023, will produce around 30,000 tons of liquid hydrogen and, upon completion of the second phase, in 2025, the production of 250,000 tons of clean hydrogen per year is expected. This development will form a complete ecosystem ranging from production, distribution, and consumption (residential, commercial, and industrial).

W60 4,765 kW, 13,200 V, 4-pole, and 60 Hz induction motors were selected to drive the compressors

For this project, which aims to meet the demand of the Korean metropolitan region, WEG delivered three 8,500 kW, 13,200 V, 20-pole, 60 Hz S line synchronous motors, specifically developed to meet the needs of this application.

In addition to three W60 4,765 kW, 13,200 V, 4-pole, and 60 Hz induction motors were selected to drive the plant's compressors.

Korean KOSHA certification

To exemplify the complexity of this project, all supplied motors were designed for hazardous areas and with Korean KOSHA certification, also featuring Zone 2 area classification, Group IIC atmosphere group, and T3 temperature class.

The synchronous motors were produced at the headquarters in Jaraguá do Sul weighing an average of 56 tons each. Specialized transport was necessary to the port of Navegantes in the state of Santa Catarina, through which the equipment was exported and sent by ship to South Korea.
