The city of Voerde has been cooperating with Westenergie AG in the operation of street lighting for another ten years.
This was decided by the Voerde City Council at its meeting in early December, thus continuing the long-standing partnership with the energy and infrastructure provider.

In addition to the planning, construction, and operation of the street lighting systems, the collaboration also includes troubleshooting, maintenance of the systems, and modernization of new technologies, for example by converting the street lights to energy-efficient LEDs.
"We will significantly reduce energy requirements in the next few years by using energy-saving technology. This cost-saving has a positive effect and not only relieves the budget, but is also good for our environment and climate protection," said Mayor Dirk Haarmann.

Around 2,100 lights will be converted to energy-efficient LED technology by 2026. "We are pleased to continue the cooperation as a competent partner, alongside the city of Voerde and at the same time, make a contribution to climate protection," said Gerd Mittich, Head of Municipal Partner Management Rhine-Ruhr.
After the renovation work has been completed, the city of Voerde will save around 650,000-kilowatt hours of electricity per year and thus, around 273 tons of CO2. In addition, Westenergie will install 60 new illuminated columns in the city center. Other innovation topics, such as charging options for electric vehicles are to follow.
