Sensata Technologies’ electromechanical fuse for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), the GigaFuse, and its Antifreeze Pressure Sensor for Fuel Cell Vehicles (FCVs), have been recognized as two of 34 finalists in Automotive News’ 2023 PACE Awards.
The award nominations underscore the company's commitment to innovation and its significant contributions to shaping the future of automotive technology. Sensata’s GigaFuse is the world’s only hermetically sealed electromechanical fuse designed for high-voltage and high-power fuse applications. The GigaFuse addresses critical safety and energy management challenges, providing a critical component that ensures the seamless functioning of EV batteries.
Energy management challenges
The fast-acting device is self-actuating and does not require external electronics and triggering. In addition, the GigaFuse is the only passive fuse without thermal aging and with an exact defined trigger level. Its design features low heat generation that allows for a high carry current and increases system efficiency.
Sensata’s Antifreeze Pressure Sensing innovation was tailored specifically for FCV operation
Sensata’s Antifreeze Pressure Sensing innovation was tailored specifically for FCV operation, enhancing performance and safety through real-time pressure monitoring that provides precise insights to the vehicle’s crucial components. The pressure sensor is used in the air and hydrogen lines of the fuel cell stack. The sensor’s unique design and coating application in the ceramic pressure sensing zone enables antifreeze capabilities that allow vehicles to pass the cold start test at -40°C. Excellent media compatibility, high signal accuracy and stable antifreeze capabilities make Sensata’s antifreeze pressure sensor an ideal solution that addresses the needs of the growing FCV market.
Stable antifreeze capabilities
"We are honored to have our solutions nominated as finalists alongside industry innovators in Automotive News’ PACE Awards this year," says Karen Asadourian, VP, Automotive Engineering at Sensata Technologies. "This recognition demonstrates our commitment to developing transformative automotive solutions for EVs and would not be possible without the hard work, passion and expertise of our team."
The final winners will be announced at the Automotive News PACE Awards Ceremony in early 2024, marking the program’s 29th year. The awards program is globally recognized for identifying and celebrating the latest innovations from automotive suppliers that advance the industry.
