Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI Selangor) announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with clean energy solutions provider, Gentari Sdn Bhd (Gentari).
The two parties will collaborate to harness Gentari’s expertise in renewable energy, hydrogen and green mobility, while also exploring other potential ventures.
Selangor’s future growth
RS-1 reflects the Selangor State Government’s five-year development plan between 2021 and 2025
The MoU that was exchanged during the Selangor International Business Summit 2023, underscores MBI’s dedication to achieving its sustainability goals outlined in ‘Rancangan Selangor Pertama 2025’ (RS-1), that was introduced in July 2022, to position Selangor as an attractive hub for clean energy investments in Malaysia.
RS-1 reflects the Selangor State Government’s five-year development plan between 2021 and 2025. The plan includes short-, medium-, and long-term goals and initiatives for Selangor’s future growth as a smart, prosperous, and livable state by 2025, with sustainability being one of the four strategic themes.

“The Selangor Government firmly endorses the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) bold 2050 net-zero emission objective. We remain relentlessly committed in seeking opportunities for a low-carbon footprint transition."
"The collaboration with Gentari arrives at a pivotal moment, as we seek to unlock the potential of Selangor’s renewable energy landscape, with a target of achieving a total energy generation capacity of 1GW by 2030, bringing us one step closer to our 45% carbon emissions reduction target,” Menteri Besar of Selangor, YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, said.
Collaborating with MBI Selangor
Shari further added: “Through this MoU, MBI aims to widen its clean energy horizons in pursuit of the state’s decarbonization objectives. Simultaneously, this move signifies a shift towards a high-value green economy and aligns with the Federal Government’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), to address the socioeconomic wellbeing of its residents.”
Gentari’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Green Mobility Officer, Shah Yang Razalli, said: “At Gentari, we’re driven by a passion for pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. By collaborating with MBI Selangor, we hope to unlock Selangor’s vast potential in sustainable energy."
Development of solar energy
The three (3) main focuses of the collaboration are the development of solar energy
Razalli added: "Our focus on innovative solutions in renewable energy, hydrogen and green mobility aligns perfectly with the visionary goals of the Selangor State Government’s RS-1, to transition the state into a sustainable powerhouse, to achieve the 1GW renewable energy capacity by 2030.”
The three (3) main focuses of the collaboration are the development of solar energy, the expansion of the infrastructure for charging electric vehicles (EVs), and the strategic planning for a hydrogen economy in Selangor.
Development of solar as the preferred renewable energy
By 2030, MBI Selangor and Gentari aspire to unlock the significant potential of Selangor’s renewable energy landscape, aiming for a total capacity of 1 GW.
The collaboration, as outlined in the MoU, is focused on the potential deployment of 300 MW of solar initiatives, encompassing on-site solutions for commercial and industrial use, ground-mounted installations, and floating solar arrays, to be implemented over the next three years. This capacity will be harnessed to support the development of green industrial parks, aeropolis, and ports.
Advancing green mobility
Gentari and MBI are collaborating to build a vast network of EV charging points across the state
Gentari and MBI are collaborating to build a comprehensive network of EV charging points across the state, to support the adoption of EVs in Selangor.
This will help Selangor meet its ambitious goal of having 10,000 EV charging points by 2025, similar to the Federal Government’s objective under the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) 2021- 2030.
Establishment of charging hubs
As a starting point, this close collaboration with the Selangor State government, is actively exploring the establishment of charging hubs in strategic locations, including Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, and Klang, within the next 12 months.
This strategic initiative also closely aligns with the objectives of the Selangor State Government, which has set a target to electrify 40% of the State Government’s fleet.
