RECOM have re-visited the designs of some of the most popular isolated and non-isolated DC/DC converters and achieved major performance improvements from the implementation of advanced circuit and manufacturing techniques. The addition of synchronous rectification improves efficiency, new planar-style transformers can be automatically placed and flexible automation keeps costs down – even reduced for some new products in volume.

The new DC/DC series have the ‘K’ designation and include the R-78K-xx series–drop-in replacements for popular three-terminal linear regulators, but now with a wider input range up to 36V. The 0.5A and 1A versions also have a wider operating temperature, better efficiency lower weight and reduced case sizes.

New RYK version

The new RKK series is an upgrade to the existing RKE/RFMM, their 1W isolated SIP-7 DC/DC

The new RKK series is an upgrade to the existing RKE/RFMM, their 1W isolated SIP-7 DC/DC. The new product now has higher efficiency - maintained to light loads, lower EMI, operation to 105°C with no derating and a longer lifetime figure.

‘Green’ credentials are improved with the elimination of potting saving cost and weight, nearly halving to just 1.7g. The RYK version is also available with a fully regulated output with the same performance enhancements.

new RSK-RUW series

Popular regulated 4:1 input RSO series has also been upgraded to the RSOK range, which now features a higher operating temperature to 88°C without derating, an upgrade from 2 kV ‘functional’ to 3 kV/1 min agency-rated ‘basic’ grade isolation, half the isolation capacitance at 50pF, and no minimum load requirements.

The new RSK-RUW series is an enhancement to the RSE series which features an 8:1 input range compared with 4:1, 3kVDC/1 min isolation, up from 2kVDC/1 second, 88.5% compared with 79% efficiency, lower isolation capacitance at 50pF and operation to 85°C without derating, up 10°C from the RSE series.

Latest improvements

The 3W SIP8 RS3K-Z series is an upgrade to the RS3E series. The -K version has a 4:1 input range and 3kV agency-rated ‘basic’ isolation compared with 2:1 input and 3kV ‘functional’ isolation for the -E series. The RS3K-Z also features a wider operating temperature range without derating to +80°C, better efficiency and lower isolation capacitance.

These latest improvements across the best-selling products are a result of circuit innovation and advanced manufacturing automation, reducing manual assembly labor. This yields performance benefits, better repeatability and cost savings.
