Recently, the arc protection system of Malaysia Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) 11 kV Damansara Damai station was successfully put into operation. The system applied PCS-9656M distributed arc protection solution, which is NR's first arc protection project in Malaysia, marking that NR's arc protection products have been recognized by TNB and officially entered the Malaysian market.

TNB is the largest national power company in Malaysia. The technical requirements are extremely strict, and it has great influence in Southeast Asia and some Middle East countries.

Bays of the distribution system

There are many incoming line bays of the distribution system, with up to eight incoming line bays

The 33 kV and 11 kV busbars of the substation are mainly connected by single bus sections or double bus single sections. There are many incoming line bays of the distribution system, with up to eight incoming line bays. Overcurrent protection and zero sequence overcurrent protection are mainly used as the main protection of the bus.

TNB requires arc protection to adopt double criteria of phase current and zero sequence current, and the protection response time is within 10 ms, while the conventional arc protection scheme only supports the access of six incoming lines at most.

If the access capacity is increased, more devices need to be configured, but the data interaction delay between devices will lead to the response time was non-compliant with requirements.

Synchronous arc protection technology

To solve this problem, the NR distributed arc protection system can support up to four buses and 12 incoming lines. A single machine can access 64 arc sensors.

Each arc protection device shares arc action, current action and other information through high-speed data synchronization technology, so that the synchronous action time of arc protection at each bay can reach 8-9 ms. It effectively solved the problem of delayed response protection for medium and low-voltage buses in Malaysia. The excellent performance of this system has been highly recognized by users.

NR expetise in field of protection & control

The successful operation of the project indicates that NR has mastered the multi-incoming line and multi-bays synchronous arc protection technology, further enriching the product line. NR will continue to give full play to the technical advantages accumulated in the field of protection & control and is committed to providing better products and solutions for the global market.
