MingYang’s recently announced product has a rated power of 11 MW and a rotor diameter of 203-meter. With the ingenious design of a hybrid drive chain, MySE11-203 features the high-reliability gene from the aerospace industry which offers huge potential for cost reduction in offshore wind as well.

With the success in MySE5.5MW turbines in Xinghua Bay offshore wind project in terms of high availability and energy production, the advantage of hybrid drive and super-compact design of MySE platform has been proved, which also forms the foundation of the MySE11-203. We are very pleased to conduct the Type Certification with DNV GL. MySE11-203 turbine is designed for the challenging and harsh offshore environment. Partnering with DNV GL, the world-pioneering certification body, the cooperation between MingYang and DNV GL enters into a new stage for a long-term relationship, and highlights MingYang’s commitment to maintaining the highest quality and performance standards for our offshore wind turbines. It’s very important to certify our turbines and demonstrates they are fully compliant to the international industry standard and reliable,” said Qiying Zhang, Executive President of MingYang.

International safety and performance standards

MySE11-203 turbine is our strategic product aiming for the European market and other international markets. The significant advantage of small-size and light-weight makes MySE a very good fit for both bottom-fixed offshore wind and floating offshore wind. Working closely with DNVGL and get the Type Certificate for MySE11-203 will provide strong confidence towards the clients,” said Dr. Chenwei, General Manager of MingYang European Business & Engineering Center.

DNV GL predicts that offshore wind will generate almost 9% of electricity globally by 2050, compared with 0.3% today. One important enabler of this trend is larger turbines and the entrance of floating wind. With its new 11 MW turbine, MingYang will pave the way for participating in the fast-growing offshore wind market with a turbine that is certified to the highest international safety and performance standards,” said Kim Mørk, Executive Vice President of Renewables Certification at DNV GL.

Offshore wind’s growth

On top of that, both sides discussed the technological trends and enormous potential of floating offshore wind on the signing ceremony. A joint effort will be much required to promote the technology and accelerate floating offshore wind’s growth.

With proved technology concept, our MySE turbines, 11 MW turbine as well, are small in size and light in weight, easy to install, which enables it well-adapted to different floaters. We need to move fast on technology innovation and make the technology smart to meet the challenges,” said Qiying Zhang, Executive President of MingYang.
