Furukawa Automotive Systems Inc. (Headquarters: Inukami-gun, Shiga Prefecture and President: Shigenobu Abe), a member of the Furukawa Electric Group, has installed a self-consumption solar power system at its head office, as one of the initiatives for reducing CO2 emissions within the entire value chain.

The self-consumption solar power system started generating electric power on January 31, 2022 and the electricity will be used at the head office location.

‘FAS Environmental Challenge 2050’

The Furukawa Automotive Systems Inc. designated its own basic environmental policy ‘FAS Environmental Challenge 2050’ in 2018, based on the Furukawa Electric Group’s corporate philosophy and is working to reduce CO2 emissions from its factories and product life cycles.

As part of these efforts, Furukawa Automotive Systems has promoted the use of renewable energy, including solar and geothermal power, at its locations in Japan and overseas. The new solar power system is the fourth time for the company to install solar power following systems in India, Mexico and Mie Factory.

The new solar power system will generate about 12% of all electric power used at the head office

The new solar power system will generate about 12% of all electric power used at the head office. Also, it is an expansion of renewable energy use within the Furukawa Electric Group for the manufacture of materials for wire harness terminals (copper strips), components (terminals) and products (wire harnesses, including aluminum), and will contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions throughout the entire value chain.

The Furukawa Automotive Systems Inc. is currently formulating plans to further expand the installation of solar power systems, at its locations in Japan and overseas. They will continue to promote the use of renewable energy and contribute to the realization of a carbon-free society.

Efforts towards the ‘Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’
