Energy Solutions, the provider of cost-efficient sustainable hybrid power solutions, was proud to support the 2024 British Marine Electrical and Electronics Association (BMEEA) annual marine apprenticeship competition held at the Seawork Expo 2024.

The three-day show in Southampton, Europe’s largest on-water commercial marine and workboat exhibition was a big success, and excitement built for the apprenticeship competition held on the final day.

Marine electrical and electronics

The British Marine Electronics Association was formed more than 25 years ago and has grown into a well-respected organization with over 90 members including manufacturers and waterside dealers, who specialize in the installation and maintenance of marine electrical and electronic systems.

The intense competition saw teams from various marine businesses and colleges tackle a fiendishly difficult electrical task. The challenge? Design a solution and bring it to life using the provided test rig. It’s not just about being the best; it’s about learning, innovating, and pushing the boundaries of marine electrical engineering.

Judging criteria

Congratulations to Connor and Chris from Sunseeker International Ltd who took first place

Energy Solutions’ Managing Director Paul Holland, who sits on the BMEEA committee, worked with the Energy Solutions team to put together the task. Employers put forward their top teams of two to compete and were Judged on their task performance, wiring capabilities, and calculations.

Congratulations to Connor and Chris from Sunseeker International Ltd who took first place. The top three teams were all awarded the same points for their fantastic teamwork and circuit wiring skills but there had to be one winner. Well done to all of them!

Promote and support apprentices

Managing Director - Paul Holland was impressed by the entries. He said, "As a member of the BMEEA, we were delighted to back, as well as devise the task for the 2024 competition; a competition which is an excellent platform to promote and support apprentices, who make up the teams, and are looking to showcase their skills and get ahead in the industry."

Paul Holland adds, "The competition was extremely fierce this year and we were delighted by the level of innovation and enthusiasm shown. We would like to thank all the teams who entered the event and offer our congratulations to Connor and Chris for their excellent performance.
