We welcome Ursula von der Leyen's initiative to reduce greenhouse emissions within the EU by 55 percent by 2030. The EU is thus demonstrating its leading role within the international community and is clearly committed to the Paris Agreement in 2015.” With these words, Johannes Teyssen, CEO of the Essen-based energy company, E.ON, comments on the plans of the EU Commission to tighten the EU's climate targets.

With its more than 1.5 million kilometers of European energy network, E.ON is the backbone of this ambitious project and is already focusing on providing solutions for the decarbonization of all sectors of the economy. Johannes Teyssen said, “We are determined to fight climate change, improve people's lives and create a future worth living.”

Green energy revolution

E.ON also intends to reduce the emissions that the company can directly influence

In addition to its central public role as Europe's largest network operator in the green energy revolution, E.ON also intends to reduce the emissions that the company can directly influence and become climate-neutral by 2040.

E.ON will reduce its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 75 percent by 2030 and 100 percent by 2040 compared to 2019. E.ON intends to reduce its Scope 3 emissions by 50 percent by 2030 and by 100 percent by 2050.

Energy networks are becoming increasingly intelligent

This will enable innovative solutions to be realized in the two business areas of energy networks and customer solutions. Energy networks are becoming increasingly intelligent and can thus integrate more energy from wind and sun. With innovative customer solutions, E.ON helps customers of all sizes to use energy more efficiently, produce renewable energy themselves, and thus reduce their carbon footprint.

Johannes Teyssen adds,  “We are convinced that sustainably managed companies make a relevant contribution to society and are more successful in the long term.”
