The sun shone as brightly as the boys and girls: The training team of the Creuznach Rowing Club 1876 e. V. is delighted with a brand new racing quadruple scull.

The boat was christened "Calypso" on Sunday on the reservoir in Niederhausen. Many club members, as well as the local mayor Christine Mathern and sports director Markus Schlosser, attended the boat christening.

Creuznach Rowing Club

In his speech, the president of the Creuznach Rowing Club, Joachim Ziegler, thanked the many supporters who made the costly purchase possible. "We have committed boys and girls in the Creuznach Rowing Club who want to take part in regatta sport. With a new boat in our fleet, we can create the conditions that will give them the opportunity to do so now and in the future."

Calypso is primarily rowed by the B-Juniors Niklas Ziemann, Tom Balloff, Milo Gött, Lion Herr, Nikita Fustii, Leonard Petri, and coxswain Mia Bleckmann. This team is starting in the first B-Juniors year and is using the current season as a development year. Participation in the German Junior Championships is planned for 2025.

Melanie Dindorf, Westenergie's municipal manager, said: "Sporting activities are invaluable for the development of young people. We are delighted that our support can help the rowing club promote its young talents."

Hull of the boat

As godfather, top rower Karl Orthmann from Creuznach, who has since joined the coaching team, was allowed to pour the champagne over the hull of the boat and reveal the name of the boat. Karl Orthmann last made headlines in early 2023 when he took an outstanding eighth place at the German Rowing Ergometer Championships in Essen.

The largest contributions to the total amount of 25,000 euros came from Dr. Wolfgang and Anita Bürkle Foundation and the Soonwald Foundation, as well as local financial institutions and the energy supplier Westenergie. Around a third was financed by donations from club members.
