Building work is currently underway on the ward to replace the old dormitory-style accommodation with single bedrooms. A range of other improvements are in progress including a new activity hub (featuring a gym, sensory room, therapy kitchen, and office); a waiting room and suite for patients’ mental health tribunal hearings; staff restroom; TV lounge, and a multi-faith room.

To enhance the team’s ability to provide safe and comfortable patient care, a simple lighting control solution was needed that allowed luminaire switching inside and outside the rooms and controlled to suit each patient’s needs.

Adapting to changing environments

Barton & Holden Electrical of Bolton approached CP Electronics for their expertise and the Vitesse Plus LCM proved to be an ideal solution, due to its high level of flexibility and functionality. It provides multi-gang switching and dimming in the bedrooms and bathrooms with overriding capabilities in the corridors for lights to be turned off or on in an emergency.

CP Electronics’ Vitesse Plus LCM has been engineered to adapt to changing environments

CP Electronics’ Vitesse Plus LCM has been engineered to adapt to changing environments, with 7 channels and 12 outputs. The installation process is simplified to a plug-and-play solution with an innovative switching arrangement achieved by programming the LCM. Up to four detectors can be connected to the Vitesse Plus LCM, maximizing the capacity to save energy. The CP Electronics system was based on individual rooms with one LCM controlling one bedroom, making installation very straightforward.

Manual dimming controls

In the unlikely event of a fault or damage to the LCM, it can easily be replaced and the programming replicated by exchanging the memory chip from the damaged LCM to the replacement. This can be carried out by a maintenance electrician without needing a revisit from the CP Electronics commissioning engineer to re-program the LCM.

The sensory room has manual dimming controls installed to allow users to control the lighting as required. The multi-faith room utilizes a switched-only control. The system also provides a controlled night light and emergency testing from a control panel outside the room. By using CP Electronics products within this facility, the staff can have total control over the lighting and can easily adjust it to a comforting and relaxing level to suit the needs of each patient.
