Unit 1 of the Beznau nuclear power plant (KKB) will be taken off the grid for a short time, on Saturday. This is due to repair work on a cable in the non-nuclear part of the plant. Once the repairs have been completed, the plant will be reconnected to the grid.

Axpo will shut down the plant in the early hours of Saturday morning to carry out repair work on a cable in the area of a 220-kilovolt transformer (non-nuclear part of the plant). For this work, the cable must not carry any current and plant components supplied by it (e.g. pumps) must be taken out of operation.

Supervisory authority ENSI

As these components are necessary for power operation, the plant will be shut down briefly during the work and reconnected to the grid once the repairs have been completed (probably on Saturday evening).

The supervisory authority ENSI has been informed about the work. There is no danger to people or the environment. During the shutdown and start-up, steam is visible above the machine hall (the non-nuclear part of the plant).
