Together with E.ON, Audi has built a solar park on the roofs of two logistics centers at its Hungarian site in Győr on an area of around 160,000 square meters.

The largest rooftop photovoltaic system in Europe, located on Audi Hungaria’s factory premises, was officially put into operation today. It has a peak output of 12 megawatts.

CO2-neutral financially

By converting our factories to renewable energies, we are making an important contribution to climate protection"

E.ON Board Member, Karsten Wildberger, “This project represents in many ways what’s needed to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. To do so, we need to rebuild the energy systems in urban areas and the industry toward CO2-neutral systems. I consider the project with our partner Audi to be an important step in our endeavor to create the sustainable energy world of tomorrow and hope that it will be followed by further projects of this kind.”

Our goal is clear: By 2025, all Audi sites should be CO2-neutral financially,” says Peter Kössler, Member of the Board of Management for Audi Production, adding “By converting our factories to renewable energies, we are making an important contribution to climate protection.”

solar modules

In a joint project with E.ON Hungaria, Audi provided the roof area of its two logistics centers, each around 80,000 square meters in size, for the construction of the solar energy park.

E.ON installed the 35,000 solar modules and is operating the system. The solar park will supply over 9.5-gigawatt hours (GWh) of renewable energy annually. This is enough to supply around 4,000 households with electricity each year and reduce CO2 emissions by around 6,000 tons.
