Ameren Missouri will soon be replacing 20-year-old technology for natural gas customers throughout Jefferson City. The company plans to install upgraded natural gas modules to existing meters later this spring. This upgrade will provide detailed information to Ameren Missouri’s customers so they can manage how they use energy and see where they could save money.

In addition to offering more control over their energy use, Ameren Missouri natural gas customers can also experience the following benefits:

  • No added fees for the installation or upgrade.
  • By logging into their Ameren Missouri account, customers can see when they are using energy the most, along with their projected bill, and compare their current usage to their prior bill.
  • Customers can choose to receive alerts when they are using their natural gas service the most and have the option to adjust their usage if needed.

Upgraded natural gas modules installed

We’re excited to roll out this new technology in mid-Missouri because it gives our natural gas customers more precise energy usage information than ever before,” said John Luth, Director of the Smart Meter Program at Ameren Missouri.

He adds, “It also provides increased safety measures to securely send us their information, which will work with our upgraded energy grid to bring everyone next-level reliability and service.

Benefit for Ameren Missouri’s natural gas customers

The majority of installations in the mid-Missouri area should be completed by summer 2024

All 135,000 Ameren Missouri natural gas customers will receive an upgraded natural gas module within the next year. Crews began installing the new modules last November in Columbia and earlier this February in Mexico. The majority of installations in the mid-Missouri area should be completed by summer 2024.

A customer’s natural gas service will not be interrupted, and they do not have to be home during the installation. Ameren Missouri kindly asks that there be clear and safe access to the meter and for pets to be secured.

Upgraded electric smart meters

In September of 2023, Ameren Missouri began installing upgraded electric smart meters throughout Jefferson City for the company’s electric customers.

The majority of installations for electric smart meters are expected to be completed before work commences on the upgraded natural gas modules.
