ABB E-mobility’s Terra DC wallboxes have been selected to power the completion of the world’s first 100 percent electric junior touring car cup, the NXT Gen Cup.
The NXT Gen Cup season launch and test day is being held today at Gelleråsen, just outside of Karlskoga, Sweden. The first official round will take place in Falkenberg on July 8-9, continuing as a support championship to the well-known Scandinavian Touring Car Championship (STCC).

The revolutionary series will see junior drivers aged between 14-25 compete across six race weekends in Sweden and Germany, with fully electric race cars based on the standard MINI Cooper SE.
In addition to being crowned winner of the world's first all-electric junior racing championship, and the official Swedish Junior Champion, they will also compete for a prize package of financial support to race in the STCC in 2024.

Vehicle charging infrastructure
The racing cars will be charged using portable versions of ABB E-mobility’s Terra DC wallbox, which provides competitors with enough electricity to run several races in one day. Each charger can deliver a maximum power of 160kW and is able to charge two vehicles with 80kW of power simultaneously. This means that each race team benefits from a ‘double charging’ capacity from one unit, significantly reducing the charger footprint and decreasing transportation emissions, as there is no longer a need for one unit per car.
