RECOM has continued to add to their ‘K’ series of DC/DC converters featuring advanced circuit design techniques and manufacturing technology with the REC5K-AW, a 5W, wide input DC/DC in a plastic package, just 1” x 1” footprint, 0.4” profile (25.4 x 25.4 x 10mm).

The cost-effective part operates over a wide 4:1 (9–36 VDC) input range and provides a regulated 5 V output rated at 1 A with 18-36 VDC input. Operation is from −40°C to 110°C ambient with derating.

EMC standard EN 55032 Class B

The REC5K-AW is certified to EN/UL/IEC 62368-1 ‘basic’ grade isolation, 4 kV/1 s, and the DC/DC meets EMC standard EN 55032 Class B with a simple external filter. Protection features include an input under-voltage lockout and output short circuit immunity. An on/off control is also included with a standby current draw of typically just 3 mA.

The REC5K-AW is characterized for operation to 5000 m altitude and pollution degree 2 (PD2) environment and reliability is high with an MTBF of over 1.4 MH at 25°C according to MIL-HDBK-217F (Ground Benign). The combination of wide input and temperature operating ranges with high power density makes the REC5K-AW ideal for demanding applications, for example, medical and industrial, where performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness are expected.
