Whether in childcare, youth work, or a sports club - volunteering has many faces and those who get involved deserve recognition.

Westenergie AG is actively implementing this locally in its partner municipalities in the form of the Westenergie employee initiative.

72-hour campaign

Because where there is usually no financial help available, employees of the energy service provider and infrastructure provider receive financial support.

Kai Quinders, a member of the German Scout Association Saint George (DPSG) and employee of Westnetz GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Westenergie, submitted the 72-hour campaign by the Scouts of the parish of St. Elisabeth Friedrichsfeld and thus made it possible for a vegetable garden to be available on the grounds of the Catholic kindergarten.

sustainability and climate protection

The volunteers built various raised and sunken beds, insect hotels, and a sanitarium for wild bees

"The garden is primarily intended for use by the Boy Scouts. Here the children can gain their first practical experience with the topics of sustainability and climate protection," said Kai Quinders.

To this end, the volunteers built various raised and sunken beds, insect hotels, and a sanitarium for wild bees on their initiative within 72 hours.

active support

Kai Quinders continues, "I am delighted with the many helping hands. Without the active support of numerous group children, their families, and the kindergarten teachers, the implementation would not have been possible."

He adds, "It is nice to see that with the help of the employee initiative we were able to create this place of sustainability for the community and especially for the group of children."

social and voluntary commitment

Anyone who rolls up their sleeves and gets involved in a good cause in their hometown will receive up to 2,000 euros

With Westenergie active locally, the Essen-based company supports the social and voluntary commitment of its employees. Anyone who rolls up their sleeves and gets involved in a good cause in their hometown will receive up to 2,000 euros for their project.

Westenergie "only" covers the material costs, but no wages. The focus is on voluntary work, which is encouraged and rewarded.

climate protection and education

In addition to energy supply, Westenergie is traditionally involved in the areas of sport, culture, social affairs, climate protection, and education in its partner communities. Through sponsorships and cooperation, the company supports both small initiatives and large associations to shape the future together with local people on a social level.

Last year, almost 400 projects were supported through the Westenergie active on-site employee initiative alone. Since the initiative was launched in 2005, around 12,000 projects have been implemented and subsidized by Westenergie with over 22 million euros.
