Katherina Reiche is chairwoman of the Hydrogen Council of the German Federal Government. This was decided by the Council, which consists of 25 high-ranking experts from industry, science, and civil society, in its constituent meeting.

Katherina Reiche, CEO of E.ON subsidiary - Westenergie, commented: “I am very pleased to take on this important task. The Hydrogen Council will make a major contribution to implementing and further developing the German government's hydrogen strategy. Together with the members of the Council, I will do my utmost to ensure that Germany will play a leading role in hydrogen technologies worldwide.

Hydrogen pipeline network

With the National Hydrogen Strategy, the Federal Government is creating a comprehensive framework for action for the future production, transport, use, and further use of hydrogen and thus also for corresponding innovations and investments.

It is precisely within this framework that E.ON is driving forward the further development of hydrogen and power-to-gas (PtG)-technologies in projects at various stages of the value chain. The knowledge and experience gained in these projects is being used to implement the National Hydrogen Strategy.

E.ON's goal is to be in a position by 2030 to add ‘green’ gases to natural gas both via decentralized PtG plants and via integration into the planned hydrogen pipeline network in the distribution networks or, if necessary, to be able to take over a supply of 100 percent hydrogen.
