One school district in Missouri is looking brighter and slashing energy costs, thanks to the recent completion of more than three dozen energy efficiency projects. Thanks to incentives from Ameren Missouri’s BizSavers program, the school district will receive a check for US$ 586,696.40 based on upgrades completed in 2021 and early 2022.

Jefferson City students and educators will also benefit from additional estimated savings of more than $300,000 a year.

Schools upgrading efficient heating and cooling systems

Offsetting the rising costs of maintaining aging school facilities, the Jefferson City School District partnered with Ameren Missouri to upgrade buildings with brighter classrooms and more efficient heating and cooling systems.

In addition to the more than US$ 300,000 annual savings in electric and operating costs, these upgrades will save the school district 3.75 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity. That’s enough energy to power more than 250 homes for a year.

Finding ways to make smart investments

The savings in electricity enable schools to focus more funds on education while making smart investments

Energy costs were an area we knew our school district could improve, and working with Ameren Missouri, we found ways to make smart investments in our schools and maximize available incentives,” said Frank Underwood, the Director of Facilities at Jefferson City School District.

He adds, “The savings enable us to focus more funds where it matters most – educating our students.”

Ameren Missouri partnered with Trade Ally Navitas to complete the projects.

BizSavers program helping school district

Other school districts in Missouri have also utilized the BizSavers program to help pay for energy-efficiency upgrades.

In 2021, the Parkway School District, one of the largest in the state, saved US$ 1.6 million, and the Hazelwood School District saved US$ 840,000.

The BizSavers program facilitates projects of all sizes, helping customers save money by operating more efficiently and leveraging cash incentives to offset the initial cost of investment.
