Ingeteam has supplied its technology for the largest renewable hydrogen production plant in operation in North America.
Namely the SoHyCal project, promoted by H2B2 Electrolysis Technologies in Fresno County, California, to serve public hydrogen refueling stations in the San Joaquin Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area.
PEM electrolysis technology
In particular, this 100% renewable hydrogen production plant employs PEM electrolysis technology. The electrolyzer will receive direct current from a Power Station with two rectifiers developed and manufactured by Ingeteam.
The electricity consumed by this renewable hydrogen production facility is currently produced by a biogas genset. In the second phase of the project, which is expected to be developed in the coming months, H2B2 will incorporate a photovoltaic power plant on the adjacent land.
hydrogen production plant
SoHyCal will become the largest hydrogen production plant with an isolated solar power supply
At which point SoHyCal will become the largest hydrogen production plant with an isolated solar power supply, constituting a small energy hub, achieving a total production of three tonnes of renewable hydrogen per day, to supply hydrogen filling stations in the area.
The project was awarded a USD 3.96M grant from the California Energy Commission (CEC) under the Clean Transportation Programme.
green hydrogen and Mobility Decarbonization
In the words of Pedro Pajares, CEO of H2B2 USA, "The project is intended to contribute significantly to the growing demand for hydrogen, particularly in transport applications, emissions reduction, and mobility decarbonization."
Harkaitz Ibaiondo, Director of Ingeteam's Green Hydrogen Business Unit, stated "This project is very important for Ingeteam, as it is our first project in North America and confirms our firm global commitment to green hydrogen."
