Over the past several years, many of the older primary schools in the Clark County School District have been receiving updates to bring them up to a standard that matches the new schools that have opened recently. Later this year, the oldest elementary school in the Valley will be joining them.

A comprehensive replacement of Red Rock Elementary is currently underway. This endeavor is being led by CORE Construction and supported by several other contractors and specialists. Upon its completion in July, the school will be equipped to provide a state-of-the-art education to K-5th students from the surrounding area.

Functional modernizations

At GSL Electric, they have been happy to be part of the build team selected to partake in this ambitious project. From perspectives, there have been many noteworthy advancements in the approach that CCSD has taken regarding the design of their electrical systems.

Red Rock Elementary has been outfitted with a color-coded electrical system to allow for easier identification of specific sub-systems (fire alarm, security, etc.), eliminating the need to open junction boxes to assess which conduits contain those systems. The team also installed a full array of photovoltaic panels allowing the school to benefit from the collected solar energy and offset energy costs.

Working hard and staying safe

Crews ranging in size from 10 to 20 craftspeople were working across the 83,000-square-foot site

GSL has maintained a presence throughout the duration of the project. Crews ranging in size from 10 to 20 craftspeople were working across the 83,000-square-foot site. This team has been powering forward to install the 85,000 linear feet of conduit and pull 240,000 feet of cable throughout.

It has been impressive to observe the team’s expertise while installing this complex system, with over $7,000,000 in electrical scope, a feat made even more noteworthy due to our electricians’ commitment to safety, boasting no recordable injuries to date.

Massive collaborative effort

Building schools with CORE Construction has always been a pleasure, and the Red Rock Elementary School Replacement has been no exception.

A project like this requires a massive collaborative effort, and it has been a pleasure to build another modern school alongside all the other trades involved. They appreciate the efforts they have made to facilitate such a smooth project, which will ultimately result in a fantastic educational experience for the Valley’s youth.
