Axpo Iberia has signed a ten-year physical power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Spanish photovoltaics developer Solaria for three solar plants currently under construction in Spain.

The deal reinforces Axpo’s position as a provider of PPAs in the Spanish and Portuguese markets.

tailor-made and innovative solutions

Under the agreement, energy will be supplied from a solar project located in Castilla-La Mancha and two additional ones in Castilla y León which will be connected to the grid in 2021. The three plants will have a 150 MW installed capacity and generate an estimated 240 GWh per year.

The PPA demonstrates Axpo Iberia’s commitment to designing tailor-made and innovative solutions for its clients and further developing renewable energy in Spain.

We continue to focus on selling the energy from our photovoltaic plants at a long-term fixed price"

Ignacio Soneira, Managing Director of Axpo Iberia, said, “Axpo Group’s extensive experience throughout Europe in this type of project, combined with our creditworthiness, puts us in a privileged position to continue promoting similar initiatives on the peninsula over the next few years.”

Enrique Díaz-Tejeiro, President of Solaria, added, “This agreement shows that we are still able to sign significant PPAs with Tier 1 players such as Axpo during these challenging times. Likewise, we continue to focus on selling the energy from our photovoltaic plants at a long-term fixed price, always seeking the greatest stability for our future income.”

Reduce GHG and CO2 emissions

The energy fed into the grid by the three PV plants included in these contracts will be 100% renewable, cutting CO2 emissions to the atmosphere by more than 48,000 tons per year and helping meet the EU targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The volume of these contracts is equivalent to the consumption of more than 73,000 Spanish households per year.
